PreferUS finalized its initial ‘proof of concept’ partnership with the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University (FAHSU) in Suzhou. This partnership resulted in a state-of-the-art VIP orthopedic center being built and opened in March 2010 with the intention of deploying the high-end PreferUS Healthcare model into the China marketplace.
The western PreferUS orthopedic surgeons work onsite at the Suzhou hospital each month holding clinics and performing surgeries for a two-week period. When a patient is admitted to the FAHSU VIP center, they are treated by a team of orthopedic specialists consisting of a Chinese surgeon and a western PreferUS surgeon. This specialized team is with the patient through the clinical visit, surgery and then post-op examination. In addition to seeing patients in the VIP center and performing surgeries, the PreferUS physicians also teach new surgical techniques/approaches to the Chinese medical community.
In September of 2015, FAHSU and PreferUS launched an International Orthopedic Center at FAHSU’s new 1500-bed hospital campus.
With a rich history of over 120 years, FAHSU has proven their strong work ethic by integrating medical treatment, scientific research, teaching, prevention and health care. They possess an array of departments, strong technical forces, advanced equipment, a pleasant environment and a high-level of academic research.
As one of the first China Grade III Level A hospitals (top-level hospital in China-standards). FAHSU is recognized as one of the leading hospitals in their province. The Public Health Department of Jiangsu Province acknowledged FAHSU as one of the key provincial hospitals directly under its leadership as well as a “public health advisory center of southern Jiangsu Province”.
In January of 2003, FAHSU was appointed as one of the network hospitals of the International Emergency Assistance Centre by the Ministry of Health.
Chief of Orthopedics at FAHSU, Dr. Yang Hui-Lin, is the doctoral supervisor specializing in Spine and a strong supporter of PreferUS’ efforts. In 1981, he began his career and was trained by the vice president of the China Orthopedic Association, Dr. Tang. In 1994, Dr. Yang received his Ph.D and in 2001-2002 completed his fellowship at New York State University under the guidance of former PreferUS Chairman, Dr. Hansen Yuan and Dr. David C. Ayers.
